A brief look

Jaffna is the northernmost peninsula city in Sri Lanka, where movement has been limited for decades owing to the civil war. It is now an important cultural attraction. Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil

It is Jaffna's most well-known Hindu Kovil. The present temple, the fourth, was constructed in 1734 A.D. It holds Sri Lanka's longest festival.

Nainativu or Nagadeepa

It is one of Jaffna's most holy islands, with a Buddhist legacy. It is claimed to be the location where Buddha summoned the Naga Kings to settle a quarrel.

Jaffna Fort

It was one of the best Dutch Forts in Asia when it was built by the Portuguese in the 17th century. Scale its walls for panoramic views of the Jaffna Lagoon.

Dambakola Patuna

Over 2000 years ago, Sangamitta, the daughter of Emperor Asoka, arrived in Sri Lanka bearing a seedling of the Sacred Fig Tree.

Kadurugoda Temple and ruins

There are 20 gray coral stone stupas in the complex, as well as the foundations of numerous more. Sangamitta is supposed to have stopped here on her journey to Anuradhapura.

Keerimalai

This mineral water spring with a view of the sea is reputed to have curative effects. According to legend, it once healed a cursed sage. A Hindu temple is nearby.
